Ball State Unified Media

In 2013 Ball State’s award-winning student media outlets merged and centralized their operations, moving into a converged newsroom called the Unified Media Lab. By combining their efforts, Telecommunications and Journalism students working for student media use their unique skills in writing, editing, video production, graphic design and multimedia to produce stories that are told across a variety of platforms in myriad ways. Student media now publish in print, online, mobile and tablet spaces.

The BSU Digital Publishing Studio powers Unified Media’s innovative multimedia tablet interactives, working with Unified Media’s student journalists to design and develop whole new way to experience stories that resonate with Ball State students.

Ball State Athletics

The BSU Digital Publishing Studio works with BSU Athletics to tell the stories of championship, community and collaboration among students on Ball State’s athletic teams. The Studio’s award-winning sports apps give tablet audiences an intimate look at the triumphs of Ball State’s student athletes and sports teams, sharing a proud legacy of excellence.

Children’s Museum of Indianapolis

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is the largest children’s museum in the world, housing more than 120,000 artifacts and providing extraordinary family learning experiences to more than 1.2 million visitors each year. The BSU Digital Publishing Studio works with the Children’s Museum to extend its innovative learning and community initiatives to tablet audiences outside the museum, enhancing the reach of the museum’s educational programs.

Department of Communication Studies

In Spring 2014, the BSU Digital Publishing Studio worked with an immersive learning team in Ball State’s Department of Communication Studies to create a tablet-based resource to help non-profit professionals and social workers deal constructively with compassion fatigue.

Department of English

The BSU Digital Publishing Studio continues to work with an immersive team of students and faculty in Ball State’s Department of English to design and develop Rethinking Children’s Literature, an interactive tablet apps that invites teacher education students and elementary education teachers to rethink children’s literature as a platform for raising social consciousness. Rethinking Children’s Literature is published biannually with book reviews, lesson plans, columns from renowned educators and original work by Ball State students and faculty.

iLearn: Integrated Learning Institute

Ball State’s Integrated Learning Institute (iLearn) serves the instructional design and technology learning needs of Ball State faculty teaching online and blended courses. A recent winner of both the UPCEA Strategic Innovation in Online Education Award and the OLC (formerly Sloan-C) Award for Excellence in Institution-Wide Online Education, iLearn leads Ball State’s efforts in building innovative and quality online courses.

The Digital Publishing Studio works with iLearn to publish iLearn Trends, an interactive magazine with a national audience focusing on issues in online and distance education in higher ed.

Indiana Office of Tourism Development

The Indiana Office of Tourism Development (IOTD) promotes travel throughout Indiana. The IOTD’s annual Indiana Travel Guide features Indiana’s great destinations and travel opportunities. The BSU Digital Publishing Studio develops the interactive iPad edition of the Indiana Travel Guide, available in the iTunes App and Google Play stores.

Sports Link

Sports Link is Ball State University’s award-winning student production team covering Ball State sports for online and local, regional and national TV audiences. The BSU Digital Publishing Studio works with Sports Link students and advisers to design and develop the Sports Link iPad App.

The Virginia B. Ball Center for Creative Inquiry supports interdisciplinary immersive learning seminars for Ball State students from a wide-range of disciplines.
